Step 1
With scissors, cut off the flat lip from old cordwelt that was first
removed from the front bow. You now have a length of found welt that
will be covered with matching material supplied with this top.
Step 2
Fold the round length in half and the mark center. Also fold the
matching material in half and mark the center. Place the center mark on
the welt to the center mark on the material, equally divided on all
sides. Apply rubber cement on the inside of the matching material on
each side of the round welt.
Step 3
When the rubber cement is dry or tacky, fold the material over the round
length so that one side adheres to the other. Press firmly against the
cord so that the material hugs the cord and lays smooth. When both sides
are held together, you can tack the new cordwelt weatherstrip to the
front bow.
Step 4
Raise top half way. Place the cordwelt against the front bow and center
it across the front bow. Be sure the inner edge of the round beading is
even with the edge of the front bow. Start in the center and hold the
cordwelt in place and tack it to the front bow. Keep the inner edge of
the round beading firmly against edge of front bow at all times.
Step 5
There will be matching material longer than the length of the front bow.
Fold this excess over so that it is even with the end of the front bow
and secure with a few tacks. Unscrew the weatherstripping along the side
of frame and pull out the old flap material that was cut when the old
top was released from the front bow. Attach the new flap under the
weatherstrip and replace the screw. Reinstall the metal retainer and the
rubber weatherstrip to the front bow. With a pointed tool, follow the
holes in the metal retainer and punch through the material so that the
phillips screws can easily be installed. Be sure to install the end
screws in the rubber weatherstrip at the end of the front bow. When
completed, lower the top and fasten it to the windshield. |
